A Seamless Blend of Steel and Style in Old HunstantoN

Set against the windswept charm of Old Hunstanton, this coastal garden balances modern craftsmanship with natural character — thanks to a considered combination of steel edging and woven steel fencing.

The owners, keen to create a space that felt both structured and serene, were drawn to the warm, earthy tones and timeless appeal of weathered steel. Working with Jordan Metalwork, they chose to blend low-profile steel edging with handcrafted woven panels to frame the garden without overpowering it. The result is a space that feels calm and contained — yet full of subtle detail.

The steel garden edging, used to define curved borders and gravel paths, brings a quiet precision to the design. It shapes the beds, supports clean planting lines, and ensures the garden maintains its form throughout the seasons. The steel has begun to take on its natural patina — a rich orange hue that glows in the evening sun and softens beautifully against pale stone and wild grasses.

In contrast, the woven steel fencing offers texture and privacy with a sculptural edge. Inspired by traditional willow panels but reimagined in long-lasting steel, each section was hand-woven in Jordan’s Norfolk workshop and tailored to fit the space. As the fence weathers, it blends further into its surroundings, complementing both the garden and the coastal setting beyond.

What makes this garden special is how seamlessly the materials work together. The repetition of steel — in two different forms — anchors the design and allows the planting to shine. It’s a lesson in restraint, craftsmanship, and the value of getting the details right.

From the first concept to the final installation, every element was crafted with care — creating a garden that feels grounded, enduring, and utterly at home in its Old Hunstanton setting.
